TIFFIN -- On a sun-soaked Friday at Mohawk Golf & Country
Club, 23 foursomes competed in the H-Association's annual Back the
Berg Golf Outing fundraiser. This year, more than $15,000 was
raised to support the student-athletes at Heidelberg
University.
Team 11 -- Rob Karnes, Todd Bertermann, Rich Kraemer & Jim
Robson -- took home the outing's top prize, carding a 59
(-13). Team 7 -- Matt Palm, Chad Fitzgerald, Bart Clouse
& George Parks -- and Team 5 -- John Hill, Nate Hill,
John Seiler & Steven Seiler -- also shot a 59, but lost on a
scorecard tiebreaker.
Karnes, Kraemer, Bertermann and Robson won the inaugural outing
in 2004. In 2007, Karnes, Bertermann and Robson teamed up
with current ESPN anchor John Buccigross for the title.
Out of 92 golfers, Cyndi Geroski won the longest drive contest
on #18 and Bill Landess won the longest putt contest on #9.
Vaughn Klein won the award for closest to the pin on #3.
"Today was a great day for Heidelberg athletics," said athletic
director Matt Palm, speaking at the banquet after the golfing had
concluded. "Thanks to the golfers, the sponsors and the
donors, this event helps us create lasting memories for our current
student-athletes."
Palm also announced that next year's event will be held on July
17, 2015 back at Mohawk.
