BLUFFTON, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University Volleyball team swept three matches at the Sommer Center Spiketacular, hosted by Bluffton University. HU beat the hosts on Friday night, then swept Olivet and Bethany on Saturday.
With the sweeps, Heidelberg has won four straight and are 7-3 on the season.
On Friday, Heidelberg walloped Bluffton in a 3-0 sweep. The Berg took the first two sets by twin 25-12 scores, then outlasted the Beavers in the third, 25-21.
Offensively, freshman
Emily Miller had a career high 17 kills, hitting .667.
Riley Tople returned to the lineup and amassed 10 kills.
Maddie Reed and
Olivia Miller controlled the tempo of the offense, picking up 24 and 15 assists apiece.
Defensively,
Reagan Davis picked up 15 digs. Tople and
Soraya Jackson teamed up for three blocks.
The second day of the Spiketacular began with a three-set victory over the University of Olivet. After a swift first set, 25-15, the Comets rallied back but still fell short in the second, 25-20. The Student Princes, with an energy boost, closed the third 25-16.
Heidelberg dominated the Comets in kills, aces, blocks, digs, and assists: 40-31, 12-3, 8-4, 39-28, and 54-48 respectively.
Emily Miller had another big game, leading the team with 13 kills.
Sophia Simon added 10.
The defensive duo of
Riley Tople and
Soraya Jackson commanded the net, tallying five blocks each.
Maddie Reed led assists with 19,
Olivia Miller adding 16.
In the third and final match against Bethany College, Heidelberg won in three: 25-15, 25-11, 25-16.
The Student Princes tallied 10 aces, 14 block assists, and 35 kills as a team.
Riley Tople led the way with 10 kills,
Sophia Simon adding 7.
Maddie Reed added 16 assists to her weekend,
Olivia Miller added 15.
The Student Princes will return to the court on Friday, Sept. 18th at Kalamazoo at the Ohio Wesleyan Fall Invitational.
