BEXLEY -- The Heidelberg University Women's Basketball team fought valiantly for 40 minutes, but ended up on the short end of a 58-51 contest at Capital University on Saturday.
The Student Princes trailed by as many as 11 in the second quarter half, but closed to within five by halftime. With 2:33 left in the third, a put-back by
Mya Jones helped Heidelberg draw even at 35, capping a 24-13 run over a 12-minute span of gameplay.
Down 37-36 after three, Heidelberg took the lead with another putback from Jones. Two possessions later, the Comets regained the advantage. Capital nursed a small lead throughout the final frame, but Heidelberg did not give up.
A 3-pointer from
Hannah Hunt closed the gap to within three, 54-41, with 25 seconds left. The Comets, however, hit four free throws in the final 20 seconds to ice it.
Tori See was the only 'Berg player in double figures, netting 16 points.
Olivia Nolting had nine.
Jones finished with 14 rebounds, including seven on the offensive end.
Malia Mizeres added 10 boards.
Heidelberg wraps up a three-game road swing with a trip to Mount Union on Wednesday. The tip in Alliance is slated for 7 p.m.
