CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University Wrestling team opened up 2024 with three duals at the UAA-OAC Challenge. Though the Student Princes dropped all three duals,
Owen Frizzell and
Demitrius Hernandez each picked up a pair of pins on the day.
In the dual against NYU, the lone 'Berg win was a second-period pin by
Drew Miller at 141. NYU took bonus points in eight weight classes and won the dual, 48-6.
Anthony Grecol put HU on the board in the dual with Chicago, picking up a 7-2 win at 165. Frizzell added a first-period pin at 184 and Hernandez capped the 30-15 loss with a pin at 285.
Travis Richardson's 11-1 major decision at 157 gave HU its first points against host Case Western Reserve. Frizzell notched a pin at 174 and again, Hernandez ended the dual with a pin at 285. CWRU won, 33-16.
Heidelberg Wrestling returns to action next weekend at the Spartan Mat Classic at Manchester University.
