20th annual golf outing a big success

Featuring a sold-out field, the 20th annual Ron Linhart Memorial Back the Berg Golf Outing was a monster success. A total of 52 teams competed, but in the end, the team of Chad Fitzgerald, Tony Hajdu, Parker Fronk, and Joey Wenning earned the right to add their names to the Todd Bertermann Memorial Trophy. The group shot a 17-under 55, finishing one stroke ahead of Steve Decker, Matt Decker, Alex Rutter and Jon Hatfield.

Fitzgerald, Fronk and Hajdu picked up their third-straight title -- with Wenning replacing perpetual weak link Conner Pacella, who hasn't hit a big putt since 2021. With a total of four titles under his belt, Fitzgerald is one win behind John and Nate Hill on the all-time leaderboard.

Dean Bogner and John Hill won the putting contest while Jim Robson and Barb Rossi took top honors in the chipping contest.

Steve Blue won the longest putt and Chris Abrams's early mark on the closest to the pin proxy held up throughout the day. Mari Briggs and Tom Leddy won the women's and men's long drive contests.

Ron Linhart '79, a two-sport standout during his time at Heidelberg, played an instrumental role in the creation of this golf outing -- which now proudly bears his name. After his passing in 2020, Ron's friends and family honored his legacy by funding an endowment, the dividends of the which will be donated to Heidelberg Athletics. Back the Berg remains the largest annual fundraiser for the H Association, the main booster organization for the Student Princes.

The next outing will be held on July 26, 2024, a week later than previously published..
