ADA, Ohio –
TJ Rhamy's title at 184 highlighted a strong day for the Heidelberg University wrestling team at the Ohio Northern Invitational on Saturday. Rhamy was one of five Student Princes to place in the event.
As a team, the Student Princes finished fifth out of 13 teams.
Rhamy teched Gideon Loewen (Olivet) to start, then majored Logan Cormell (Otterbein). In the semifinal, he registered a first-period pin of Eli Crum (Lycoming) -- his first of the season. The finals, Rhamy looked to avenge Tuesday's 9-0 dual loss to ONU's Gavin Layman. After a scoreless first, Rhamy started down and escaped quickly. Shortly thereafter, Rhamy extended his lead with a takedown -- but yielded a reversal one minute later. Down 3-2 in the third, Layman reversed Rhamy once again and held a 4-3 advantage. The 'Berg junior evened the score with an escape midway through the third, then won it with a takedown.
In his first action of the year,
Montavious Yearby went 6-1 and took third at 174. Yearby picked up four pins on the day -- all of which came in the first period.
Also competing at 174,
Owen Frizzell took sixth. The freshman began with three straight first-period pins before dropping his final three bouts.
Anthony Grecol fought his way to a fourth-place finish at 157. After a major decision in his opener, Grecol dropped to the consolation brackets. Once there, he used a pin and a major to continue his day. He would fall in the third-place match.
Like Grecol, 165-pounder Carson Pottenger-Mendoza took fourth. He started with a pair of pins, with a tech fall sandwiched in between. A narrow 2-0 loss sent the Student Prince into the consolations where he went 1-1 to place fourth.
Elsewhere,
Bobby Logan and
Claude Buckmaster grabbed two wins while Nathan St. Bernard added one victory.
Heidelberg returns to action in two weekends when it hosts the Kalahari Duals in Sandusky.
