Six place at Mid-States Invitational

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. -- The Heidelberg University wrestling team competed at their final competition before heading to the NCAA Central Regional Championships this Saturday at the Mid-States Invitational. 

The Student Princes sent a sizable contingent to the meet hosted by Wabash College and finished fourth overall with 93 points. Hosts, Wabash won the event with 167 points. 

Heidelberg saw six competitors reach the podium in their respective weight classes, including three fourth place finishes from David Ocasio, Alex Westbrook, and Raven Brant. Jacob Horsch took fifth, Dominic Finch placed sixth, and Dwight Parker was seventh. 

125 -  No Entrants.

133 -  David Ocasio placed fourth overall at 133 with a 3-2 record on the day. After getting booted to the consolation rounds, Ocasio cruised into the third place match with two pins and a tech fall before falling to Brandon Bartlome of ONU to finish fourth. 

Thomas Schnitker and Iosef Nunez both concluded their days early, finishing 0-2. 

141 -  Jake Justice ended his day prematurely with an 0-2 record. 

149 -  Dwight Parker finished seventh overall. He won his first bout via pin before getting bumped to the consolation round. There, a 14-9 win and a loss sent him to the seventh place bout where he won by forfeit. Parker's day ended at 3-2. 

Micah Mydloski fell to the consolation rounds with a 12-3 loss in his first bout, but rebounded with a medical forfeit win and a 1:02 pin over Ethan Huffman of Mt. St. Joseph. Mydloski's day ended in the next round with a 14-9 loss. He was 2-2 on the day. 

Carson Pottenger was knocked out early with an 0-2 record. 

157 -  Jacob Horsch progressed through the championship bracket with a pin and a sudden victory 6-4 decision before two costly losses sent him to the fifth place bout. There, Horsch won by medical forfeit and took fifth place overall with a 3-2 record. 

Isaiah Bretz started the day with a bang, pinning Jose Sanchez of MacMurray after 6:00. Unfortunately, Bretz lost his next two, ending the day 1-2. 

165 -  Dominic Finch finished his day 3-3 overall, good enough for sixth place. After getting sent to the wrestle-backs, Finch won three straight, which included two pins. Finch then dropped two in a row, settling him into the sixth place finish. 

174 -  Alex Westbrook placed fourth on the day. Westbrook won his first two matches via a 7-3 decision and a 4:18 pin. In the quarterfinals, Westbrook was sent to the consolation round and picked up a 2:45 pin to move into the third place match. There, he fell 15-6 to finish fourth overall with a 3-2 record. 

Adam Medeiros lost his first two bouts, finishing 0-2 on the day.

184 -  No Entrants.

197 -  Cory Stallings narrowly lost his first bout with an 8-7 decision going against him, but he rebounded nicely, winning two decisions in the consolation rounds. His momentum was halted with a tight 6-5 loss, finishing his day at 2-2. 

Austin Smith was upended early, ending the day 0-2. 

285 -  Raven Brant worked his way to a solid fourth place finish. Brant won his first two bouts with a 4:15 pin and second sudden victory 4-2 win. Brant then dropped his next bout, but rebounded with a 5:29 pin. In the third-place match, Brant was pinned and finished fourth. On the day, Brant finished 3-2. 

Gabriel Martinez picked up a pin in his first match after 4:32 of action, but was dropped in consecutive consolation rounds, concluding his day at 1-2.
