Slagle, Parker, & Kahl place at Alma

Alma, Michigan -- On the road at the Alma Open, the Heidelberg University wrestling team was in action, with many wrestlers seeing mat time against DI and DII opponents. 

The Student Princes saw three wrestlers find the podium at the end of the day. At 174, Jeremiah Slagle took second, Da'Veon Parker finished fifth at 197, and Braedan Kahl ended in sixth place. 

Below is a summary of the team's performances from the day. 

125:  No entrants.

133:  Thomas Schnitker, David Ocasio, and Iosef Nunez all bowed out early after going 0-2. 

141:   Jake Justice picked up a 5-3 win in consolation rounds, but finished the day 1-2. 

149:  No entrants.

157:   Isaiah Bretz got knocked to the consolation rounds, but earned a 7-6 decision and his first HU pin after just 2:05 against DII opponent Micah Poletti of Ferris State. Trying to wrestle his way into placing contention, Bretz was undone by Schuyler Caprella ending his day at 2-2.

Jacob Jorsch won his first match via an 8-2 margin, but lost two straight to end his day early. 

165:  Braedan Kahl advanced his way to the semi-finals with two decision wins, guaranteeing a placement on the day. In the consolations, Kahl dropped two straight, sending him to the fifth place bout. There, Kahl was upended 14-8, placing him sixth overall. On the day, Kahl finished 2-3.

Dominic Finch won his first bout by a 6-5 decision, but dropped two straight to fall out of competition. 

174:  Jeremiah Slagle cruised into the finals with two first-period pins, followed by a 16-0 tech fall win in the semis. Against Seth Dominguez in the final bout, Slagle was ousted by a narrow 10-8 decision. Slagle finished the day 3-1, good for second overall. 

Alex Westbrook ended the day 0-2. 

184:   No entrants.

197:  Da'Veon Parker used a pin and a major decision to get his way into the semis. There, a loss dropped him to the consolation bouts. Parker then fell into the fifth place bout where a forfeit win gave him a 3-1 record for the day and a fifth place finish. 

Cory Stallings pinned Ferris State's Logan Golimbieski in 1:01, but was knocked out after losing his next two bouts. 

Austin Smith concluded the day 0-2. 

285:  Gabriel Martinez dropped into the consolation rounds, but earned two first-period pins before falling out of the competition. He finished 2-2. 

Blake Jerome concluded his day 2-2 after picking up two decisions in the consolation rounds before ending his day. 

Raven Brant won his first bout via a 2:06 pin, but lost two straight to end his day 1-2. 

Brandon DiPrima and Eric Adkins ended the day early, both 0-2. 

Heidelberg will return to the mats on January 25th as they host the OAC Quad Duals. HU will wrestle Muskingum, Otterbein, and Baldwin Wallace starting at 10 a.m. at Seiberling Gymnasium.
