ADA, Ohio -- Four wins were not enough for the Heidelberg University wrestling team in a 26-18 loss at Ohio Northern University on Thursday evening. The Student Princes dropped to 1-2 in OAC action.
Harrison Hadley started Heidelberg off on the right foot, picking up his first collegiate pin. The fall came in the third period and gave HU a 6-0 lead.
The Polar Bears won the next four bouts, including a tech fall, giving them a 14-6 lead halfway through the match.
At 165,
Devin Miller picked up a hard-fought 7-3 win over Jordan Hardrick, drawing HU to 14-9.
An ONU pin at 174 pushed the hosts on the brink of victory, but
Dylan Roth temporarily halted the Polar Bear momentum. Roth made quick work of Sam Medlen, picking up a 47-second pin.
Down 20-15, Heidelberg's slim hopes vanished with a Polar Bear pin at 197.
Despite the match being sealed,
Eric Adkins battled in his first career conference bout. ONU's Logan Painter rode Adkins out in the second, and attempted to do the same in the third. Adkins patiently bided his time. Then, with two seconds left to go in the match, Adkins struck for a reversal and won the bout, 2-1.
The Student Princes return to action at this weekend's Alma Open before returning home as hosts of an OAC Quad on Saturday, Jan. 25.
