WRS: Berg wrangles the Muskies

NEW CONCORD -- Working through injury and illness, the Heidelberg University wrestling team picked up another road victory on Tuesday. The Berg beat Muskingum University, 26-9, winning five bouts of the eight contested bouts.  Heidelberg improved to 7-6 overall, 3-0 in the OAC.

At 125, Mason Brainard was nipped by Jordan Burkholder, 4-3. Next, Tre Bogetich gave up a first period takedown and four back points, digging an early hole. The 133-pounder battled back aggressively and rallied for a resounding 16-10 victory over Muskingum's Slade Stiles.

With the match knotted at 3, Slade Todd put The Berg out in front with a hard-fought 8-4 win over Sammy Southers.

Following a double-forfeit at 149, Noah Messerall manhandled Michael Kashuba -- a 17-0 technical fall. Last year, Messerall also picked up a tech fall in the OAC dual against Muskingum

Reigning OAC Wrestler of the Week Tanner Walker snapped Heidelberg's run with a second period pin of Logan Broskie.

A Muskie forfeit at 174 erased any potential momentum for the hosts. At 184, Pat Brown nursed a second period escape into the third period before tallying four back points and a point for riding time, taking a 6-0 win over Anthony Cole-Young.

The most exciting of the night came at 197. A stalling point put HU's Chase Morrison in a 4-3 hole with under a minute to wrestle. Morrison responded by taking down Antonio Zapata with less than thirty seconds to play. Up 5-4 with no riding time advantage, Morrison tried desperately to ride Zapata out. As the closing seconds ticked away, Zapata wriggled free in the nick of time. Morrison ended it with a walk-off takedown 47 seconds into the first overtime period.

Christian Climer capped the evening with a 7-5 victory over Garrett Mitchel at 285.

Heidelberg returns to action at this weekend's famed Pete Willson Wheaton Invitational. The next OAC match -- the final road dual of the season -- is next Tuesday at No. 9 Mount Union (10-1, 4-0 OAC).
